i just thought i would let you guys know why ms. sultis held class on a mandatory evacuation day. MONEY. it was all about money. no class that day no money from gov. pretty sad huh? money is apparently more important than the safety and well being of our children. i for one can't wait to be rid of her fat [censored].

RE: Thank You Barbara Sultis
Her presence alone is enough to make anyone gag let alone her ineptness about most situations.
I was sitting at monument Inn one day and she was at a window table right behind me with her significant other. She was talking so bad about teachers and others in her district that "I" was shocked that she would speak as she was in public for anyone to hear what she was saying. It was shameful.

There is not enough time in the day or space on this board to say what needs to be said about her and the terrible way she runs this district!

RE: Thank You Barbara Sultis
So, basically Miss Kendall, you don't have a specific complaint?
Frazz, you have a problem with her appearance? Really? That's quite ridiculous. There are many overweight children in this district. Hopefully, they aren't treated with the same irreverance and disrespect. If what you are saying is true I will agree that for someone in her position that was very unprofessional. However, I have a hard time believing that story because someone like Dr. Sultis is quite aware that there are eyes and ears everywhere.
I work in this district and have so for a number of years. Many of the things that get blamed on Dr. Sultis are things that are not directly within her control. In other words, it would not matter who was the Super, the problem would still exist. The school board has a lot more control than they should.
Most often, I hear people complain about TAKS scores throughout the district. As a teacher, I can emphatically say that this has nothing to do with Dr. Sultis. At the end of the day it boils down to the students..the clientele of this district. Let's be honest...Baytown isn't the same place today that it was 10, 15, 20 years ago. In most, NOT ALL, cases if a student doesn't pass the TAKS test it was because that child dropped the ball at some point during the year. If you don't take the time to study and work on your lessons you most likely will not be successful on the TAKS test. For example, if you decided it was more important to talk to your neighbor when your math teacher was teaching 2 step equations and video games were more important than homework and study you will FAIL that portion of the TAKS. Students aren't going to magically get that correct....especially when skills build upon skills.
When I was a student, I understood that I was accountable for my actions. I knew if I didn't do an assignment I wouldn't get credit. I knew if I made the choice to cheat literally or cheat the system there would be a consequence. I knew that my mommy wouldn't make excuses for me, label me with some bogus disorder, and certainly would not blame the teacher for my actions. THIS is the biggest problem in the district. Kids are not expected to be accountable because parents do not want to be held accountable.
The only thing I will say that Dr. Sultis needs to do a better job with is LEP students. These students are struggling, the teachers who are not trained to teach these children are struggling, and kids who have to sit in a class dominated with LEP students are struggling. I hate that GCCISD waited until things were almost as low as they could possibly go in this arena to notice that there was a problem. Now, it's all thrown on the teachers. There are little, if no resources to help us. There are only a couple of 6 hour workshops (one just got cancelled due to Ike) to give us a "crash course" if you will. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. I for one, am fed up that this district waits until the last minute to deal with a serious situation. I agree that we need to be more proactive.
The bottom line is...Dr. Sultis isn't perfect. She hasn't always made the best decisions in every situation. Show me someone who is and has and let's hire them. The problems in GCCISD will exist long after Dr. Sultis is no longer Super because it's mindsets that are preventing some children from being successful. The more parents want to coddle and be friends with their kids rather than parents the worse this district will become. From my experience it seems that education is not the priority of a lot of families in Baytown. Mediocrity rules the day for many students and their parents. Why is this ok? How is this the fault of Dr. Sultis? Is Dr. Sultis to blame because the parents of AP students think it's "too much" and "too stressful" for their children to do summer reading assignments?
I remember the days when GCCISD was considered one of the best districts in Texas. Ask yourself what was different...really think about it. I guarantee you the answer isn't Dr. Sultis.
