I am fairly new to this camping thing. What is everyones favorite places to camp in Texas??? Trying to stay close to home due to lovely gas prices. We have tried Brozos bend and Double Lakes. Any suggestions???

RE: Let's go camping

OMG...we love to go camping! One of our favorite places is Crystal Beach. The camping is actually free but you need to get a beach pass that is for all year to allow parking your vehicle on the beach.

Not sure if link work on this forumn but will try and post the info...

Yelp, there it is!!

We also like to go camping at Lake Stubblefield

Directions:Lake Stubblefield Recreational area in Sam Houston National Forest. - Go north on I-45 from Houston past Conroe to the Waverly exit. Take 1375 west about 10 miles, across the bridge over Lake Conroe to Forest Service Road 215. I never saw the road signs, just a sign to Lake Stubblefield. Follow this road, taking the right fork when if forks.
Facilities: Lake Stubblefield Recreational Area and has camping with a bathroom with running water and wheelchair access. It also has a day use area. It is on the Lone Star Hiking Trail and also accesses several bike trails, as well offering fishing from the bank, a bridge, or by boat, so there is a lot to do here.
Handicap Access: accessible restrooms

It's not necessarily the amount of time you spend at
practice that counts; it's what you put into the practice.

RE: Let's go camping

Hi Spring Chick.
My husband and I love to camp, and with gas so high, we can't afford to go too far. My favorite campground is Double Lake. They're pretty reasonable on their rates too. Here is a link.

State parks are the least expensive and there are several in the area.
Here are some more links. We've been to both of these and they are very nice.

8 Ball. Usually not in Galveston, but on High Island or Bolivar...Its not as sandy as you might think, if you try to keep the sand out of the tent..
