Pink Floyd's albums "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon" were both inspired by and basically written for one of Floyd's ex members, Syd Barrett. Syd was one of the founding members but was eventually replaced by David Gilmour when he suffered a breakdown that was so severe, he eventually became a recluse. Over the years the band carried on without Syd, but they never forgot him. They had watched a close friend slowly fall apart emotionally and mentally right before their eyes and they had been powerless to help. The two tribute albums are peppered with real life incidents such as the scene in "The Wall" where we find the lead character comatose, sitting in a chair with an entire cigarette burned down to the butt, ashes still completely in tact the entire length of the cigarette. David and Roger actually found Syd in that state during one of his "bad turns". The band's desperation and loss is heard clearly in the song "Wish You Were Here" as well as tonight's song, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

Syd died from pancreatic cancer on July 7th, 2006 after spending the last 30 years of his life as a recluse. He is a legend that will live on forever in the hearts and minds of Floyd fans everywhere.

Shine on, Syd.

Lyrics

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now theres a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the
Steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend,
You martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the
Steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper,
You prisoner, and shine!
I'm just curious. Is there a purpose for posting a nightly song?

Sure, Free and I enjoy doing it, it opens some people up to new music, it can be a personal statement, certain songs can stir up old forgotten memories, and it's just fun. I don't know about anyone else, but I normally look forward to finding out what song Free has decided to share.

I like it too.
To me its just a little light hearted entertainment. Songs usually bring back a memory of what and where you were when you first heard it. Life is way too short to be serious and argue all the time.
You may take note of my signature this evening...
Like I said, I was just curious. So can anyone post a song?
