Is it possible for someone to track your IP address just from posting on this site or other chatrooms?
I am the only person who will ever see your IP address on this site. I do not share IP addresses, email addresses, or any other personal information about any of our members whatsoever. I can't speak for other sites and chat rooms however. They do have the ability to see your IP address, but they aren't supposed to share your information with anyone else or use that information for malicious purposes. You can sue them if they do.

Are you suspicious that someone is taking advantage of seeing your IP address on a site?
I was just curious, I was on another site where an argument ensued and one person threatened a harassment charge, claiming they could track the IP address. I just wondered how easy that would be and if any court would actually take that seriously. They both have said some really mean things to one another and about other people. I would think that if you don't want comments about yourself, that you would keep your personal business out of chat rooms and off the net. But I don't see how ugly comments could be considered harassment.

Thanks Dorian and Malcolm for the info.
